Headcanon Notes | Always a WIP

We're never given any information regarding Tamora's youth, but that's something that is kind of important to the fundamental nuance of a character, so here are some notes about some headcanon I have and why.

  • Tamora grew up in Chicago.
The expansion comic that gives us a little more history about Hero's Duty confirms that the space marines call earth home. Additionally, it's fairly obvious that Hero's Duty is something of an homage to Call of Duty (and/or HALO), which was developed in the US. Ergo, logically, Hero's Duty is a domestic game rather than an import, leading me to believe that the space marines are meant to be an offshoot of the USMC, narrowing our field to the good old US of A.

Now, I'm not one of those people who foists everything about the voice actor onto a character, but Jane Lynch didn't really change her voice for Tamora's role that I could discern. Speech patterns and inflection tend to be very indicative of where someone grew up and spent those crucial language-learning years of their life, and Jane Lynch grew up just south of Chicago. More than that, Tamora's got that hard-nosed fast-paced cityslicker vibe down pretty well, so it's easy enough for me to see her growing up with an appreciation for deep dish pizza and hot dogs without ketchup and watching Bears games with her father. 'Cuz, come on, even if it's kind of an indeterminate future, some things will never change.

  • She's a Navy Brat.
There are no marine bases in Illinois, but there's a fundamental sternness to Tamora's demeanor that says to me that she grew up with at least one military parent. There are, however, army and navy installations in the greater Chicago area, and since we all know that the marines think army men Ain't Ready for Marines Yet, this leads me to believe that her father was in the navy. It also serves to reason, in my opinion, that she would choose to follow in her old man's footsteps and join up, but given her intensely independent and competitive nature, she'd kick it up a notch and shoot for the marines.
